Welcome to the Autumn edition of ...

...the second issue of a new, thrice-yearly journal for medical imaging professionals in Europe.

The first issue of C2I2 focused on the kidney, highlighting the prevalence and risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), and available approaches to minimising the risk of CIN and its potentially serious consequences.

Controversies and Consensus in Imaging and Intervention
    Encourages debate and informs:
    •Computed tomography radiologists
    •Interventional cardiologists
    •Interventional radiologists
    •Nurses
    •Pharmacists
    •Practice managers
As always, we welcome your feedback on any aspect of the journal.

The heart of the matter…
This time, the spotlight is on the heart and major vessels, with an insight into the latest technology in coronary intervention. It can be argued that in no other discipline is the importance of imaging and intervention, and the degree of technological innovation so great, as in interventional cardiology. The use of coronary artery stents has revolutionised the management of occlusive disease. The addition of coatings and drugs to stents is now significantly increasing the longevity of the benefit we can expect from these devices. The use of endovascular stent-grafting to manage aneurysms of the abdominal aorta has also developed significantly in recent years. Techniques for imaging of the coronary vessels and major arteries have also advanced dramatically. This issue is therefore aimed at reviewing all of these developments.

Debate the issues with C2I2
We have sourced articles from experienced physicians in Europe and the USA. We think you will agree that they provide a comprehensive overview of the astonishing wealth of data available and provide a fascinating insight into the exciting revolution that is occurring in interventional medicine.
  • Dr Nonent and his colleagues from Brest, France, describe the value of different imaging techniques to assess abdominal aortic aneurysms.
  • Dr Rammohan and co-workers based in Chicago, USA, present the latest advances in stent technology, highlighting the evidence for the role of coated and drug-eluting stents.
  • Dr Anand and colleagues from London, UK, present news in coronary artery imaging, from their own experience with the most up-to-date techniques.

We hope not only to emphasise areas of consensus, but also to encourage debate across disciplines to increase awareness of important and sometimes controversial issues. Our aim is that by providing reviews of clinical evidence, we will enable our readers to make better-informed decisions for clinical practice.
